Cruise AZTÈQUE

12th-16th February 1990

Abstract

Eleven bottom trawl hauls were performed in the South-East of New Caledonia at depths between 235 and 500 m. Eight of these hauls were made on three seamounts which are located on the Norfolk Ridge. Fish catches were poor, particularly as far as commercial species are concerned. A total of 74 species belonging to 46 families were identified. Comparisons of these results with those from other boats using different fishing techniques at similar depths on the same fishing spots were made. They seem to show that at such depths fish resources are limited on these seamounts.
